Nintendo Miiverse

Nintendo's Miiverse, while definitely not the best social site, I still like it for what it is. On this post, I'll talk about what I like and dislike about Nintendo's social platform. Nothing too deep, just shooting out some thoughts.

Puzzles at BGC

Puzzles Board Game Lounge

Another weekend done, pretty happy with how this went. Got some major chores done, some game time, and got to hang out with the usual suspects. This log would be just my thoughts on my first visit at Puzzles BGL at BGC.

Dungeons and Dragons Anthology Master Collection

Oh Dungeons & Dragons, I missed how much time I wasted with you.
So this is the Dungeons and Dragons Anthology Master Collection. Seeing this in the local game shop, I had some slight reservations in getting it. I had copies of all the games here except for one but getting through the worlds they setup there had me buy this again. Also, my old CD copies are getting unreliable.

Retro Game Challenge (Game Center CX)

I'm happy to have bought a copy this game, I have played this game before but had a hard time looking for a copy locally but it was worth it. Basically this game is like a collection of games, as the title advertises it is 8-bit Retro Games from the NES (Family Computer)

Finally got my that Skeleton Army from Greattoysonline, had the thing last Sunday but didn't have the time to take pictures of it. I always had difficulty with the lighting in my room so I had to take photos in the evening. Anyways, the photos and my review is available after the break.

Skeleton Warriors

Damn it, I must get one of these buggers. Sadly the figure is a bit scarce to fin here. I'm sort of reviving my toy collection. Well, not really a collection but more of the things that I really really want.  In a bit, I'll contact a shop and ask if they can buy this for me.

Video review (not mine) and links after the break.

Real Keypads!! I missed you!

Woot! Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro! REAL KEYPADS!!! Ever since I got my first Android phone, the HTC Wildfire, I never got used to tapping on glass to send messages, call someone, etc. Most of the time I was typing gibberish and pressing backspace. Also, as I was making this entry I just realized that I never made an entry for the Wildfire. Hmm.. maybe I didn't really care for the unit. Anyways, sold it to my friend for a good price. :)

For my take on the phone and related ramblings, click on.

Noodle Review?

I always put this off several times now but I guess I just have to do this. Its nothing eventful really. Just a small project for myself. So here I go, Bakemono's Noodle Review. Hahaha.

I got this Korean Noodle cup from the department store, worth P57.00. I had high expectations for this one, being of this price range.

The noodles were peculiarly thick; first time I got something like this to be honest. As for the other stuff inside, it had a shrimp thing and some swirly thing. Yes, I possess astute observation and description skills. As for the soup/sauce, it tasted ok. I wish it was a bit more tastier. Finally for the styro cup, I had a hard time drinking from it. It made me drool over the side a bit, but not much.

Well, thats that. This is first official suck ass Bakemono's Noodle Review. Hmm, i might do this every payday. Yeah, im poor. Hehe.

Castlevania Figures

Castlevania figures by Neca, by Pixel Dan of RetrowareTv.

As most of my friends know, I'm a big Castlevania fan and the first time I saw the toy online I knew I wanted one. A week or two earlier, I saw the whole set somewhere in Makati. I was a bit disappointed with the figures up front; something about the details and the colors. The price didn't help as well.

In any case, if ever I'd buy a figure or two. I'd get Simon and the Succubus.

Batman Gotham Knight

Batman Gotham Knight - Official Trailer

Interesting how one would really pay attention to the smallest of details when enjoying something you like. Well, that's the case when I was watching Batman Gotham Knight. Very much like Animatrix, there were several stories in this one. Each was handled by different teams. Though for me, not everything was the kick-ass-greatness but I liked the whole movie nonetheless.

There are some lines/dialogs that caught my ear. Being a geek, I took them down and here they are.

Bruce Wayne: I'm willing to put my life doing what I have to. But it has to be mine, no one else's.
--------------------
Gotham Bum: Hey bat, when you flying; what the city look like up on high?
Batman: It looks dirty.
--------------------
Bruce Wayne: Even I can appreciate the attraction of a gun. The heft, the sleekness, the cool steel, the precision and the power. The power to change lives, history. The power of God.
--------------------

Oh yeah, they got Kevin Conroy, to voice Batman. He is well know to be the voice of the bat throughout the majority of the DC animated universe.

I'm also looking forward to the soundtrack. :D

Transformers Animated

Earlier was the Premiere of Transformers Animated on Cartoon Network. Didn't really like the art style, it was too kiddie oriented. I miss the big kick ass robots from Transformers G1. Well at least it was kind of entertaining, lots of small references to the first TF G1. They even got a cameo of Witwickys in their old space garb, got it confirmed with Wikipedia. The premier lasted for an hour 30mins, not sure if it was due to the fact it was a premiere or they patched a couple episodes together.Well, I guess I'd be still be watching it when I can but one still kind of bugs me.

Why does the All-Spark looks like a Big Mac box?

Oh yeah, here is a good rant/review about the series. Yep, I agree with the points of view stated there.

Sweeney Todd

Once again, I am late to watch one of the great movies of 2007, or is it early 2008. Oh well. I just love Tim Burton's way of either breathing (twisting the) life into his works. I so love the visuals, lighting, textures, the overall mood.

Make no mistake, this movie is not for the fearful of blood. Well, it was an interesting combination, the fact it is a musical but a horror flick of sorts.

Also I enjoyed the songs, and how I wish I could get Sweeney's accent. I guess at least how they spoke in old London. Hehe.

Speed Racer, Gooooo!!!

As I readied myself to watch Speed Racer, I knew this would be just a kid flick. One of those movies you'd watch only once. Well, I was pleasantly wrong; it was a good watch and I’d watch it again but the race scenes only though.

The story was weak at best; the attractant for me was the array of epilepsy inducing visuals. Wonder how drunks and junkies would react to the visuals, probably they'd be sweating like Michael Jackson in a Boy Scout’s meeting.

All in all, I had fun. And yes, better watch it with friends or while your shit-faced and high. Hehe.

Scream Awards and B movies!

The other evening I just watched the Scream Awards. How wish I got to watch the whole thing but at least i got the next best thing, a listing of the winners. The Scream Awards is award giving body dedicated to mostly sci-fi, horror and fantasy genres.

Well, I am currently watching The Grindhouse by Quentin Tarantino. So far the intended B-movie style is totally kicking ass. Also, I'll by acquiring a copy of The Devil's Reject and probably anything that looks good on Scream Award nominees.

Ill be updating this later or tomorrow...

The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters

So glad i watched this movie, its so amusing and uplifting. Its a classic battle between some top guy and an underdog, but this is a battle for the top score on Donkey Kong. I know it sounds quite geeky, but still a very good movie. Check out the links on the bottom of the post.

Also, i wonder where i can find a copy of the movie Chasing Ghosts. The posts around the net claims its better.

Movie Remakes

Funny how Hollywood is remaking all these Asian Horror flicks. First it started with The Ring, then The Grudge, Dark Water and so on. Now they got One Missed Call and The Eye coming in. Interesting enough, Jessica Alba has taken the lead role for The Eye. At least she still looks hot here. Hehe.

I do like the effects they bring up to the plate. Sadly, most of the time they lose the Asian feel and over kill it with Hollywood glam. One remake I enjoyed was The Grudge.

Silence is over...

Yesterday, I just finished Silent Hill Origins and its a good game. Got the best ending in the first try; I guess it’s just an easy game. One thing to note here is, this game wasn’t made by the original Silent Hill team but still everything turned out great. Thank god they got Akira Yamaoka to handle the soundtrack. I just love Akira’s works on the Silent Hill series, especially Silent Hill 2.

Oh yeah, I knew there was a demo leaked out and as always the ever vigilant hackers of the gaming community unlocked the thing. It was mentioned on Wiki (spoilers on the link) that there more stuff there than on the retail version.

Here are great links to Silent Hill stuff:

Retro gaming

I want retro games!!! Wahh..

Ever since i got a whiff of Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles, I've been hankering for some retro games. Konami has been dishing out good games recently but for the Nintendo DS. They got the Castlevania games and now a squeal of the legendary retro game, Contra.

Somebody give me a Nintendo DS, pls!! Hehe.

Here is a review on Contra 4 by Destructoid.

Yet another video game ramble...

First off, I finally got to finish Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles. Got a 78% completion rate but got all the goodies unlocked. :D

Now, I'm off to Final Fantasy Tactics. So I thought... just now I got a copy of Manhunt 2. This is the controversial game from Rockstar Studios, it was said to be so violent that it earned AO (Adults Only) rating. Apparently, I got the retail version and I'm on my way getting the uncut (hacked) version that contains the "uncensored execution kills". Click here for the video clip.

I do enjoy a reasonable amount of violence but with the uncut version, it was mostly disturbing. Hoping no one goes on a killing spree inspired this game... and yep, I am getting old or growing up to be exact, being concerned with such things. Haha.

Oh yeah, as for the totality of game (given I only have the retail version); it was kinda repetitive and tiring. I might try to finish the game since I did waste my time getting it. Also, I found it amusing how the Destructoid peeps reacted to the whole thing. I'm glad they found this "torture porn" offensive and didn't even want to own a copy because of it, well the majority of them.
